A Brief Narrative of the History of Ireland
Originally, Ireland was inhabited by ancient people who advanced as any other civilization. They figured out how to grow crops so they could stay in one place, developed religion, and so on. Soon, the arrival of St. Patrick introduced Christianity to the Gaelic Irish. Time passed as some Irish converted and some didn't, and in 800 Ireland was attacked by Viking Norseman. They settle and make themselves at home, but Brian Boru is ireland's hero and defeats them. Then Ireland faced a new problem. The arrival of the Normans in 1167 ignited the struggle between the English and Irish. The English created a bunch of laws to attempt to enforce Irish hands to do what they please, including the Statutes of Kilkenny and Irish Penal Laws. The Irish War over control of Munster came about in the 1560s-1580s, followed by the Tyrone Rebellion beginning in 1594. Skip forward about a hundred years to the Battle of the Boyne, where William of Orange defeats James II. Skip forward another few hundred years and we land on one of the most important and devastating pieces of Irish history: the Irish Potato Famine, from 1845-1849. This is followed by loads of wars and battles, which include: World War 1 (1914-1918), Irish War of Independence (1919-1921), Irish Civil War (1922-1923), and World War 2 (1939-1945). In 1949 the Republic of Ireland declares itself independent from Northern Ireland. The year 1998 comes with a peace plan, the Good Friday Agreement, and all parties accept. in 2006, a 20-year plan to create a bilingual, irish-Englih society is implemented.
